Our Heroes – Our First Responders

Employment Opportunities Partnership was very pleased to be able to honor First Responders by hosting an appreciation dinner event on May 31, 2018 at the Digby Pines. First Responders put their lives on the line every day for all us. Veterans, RCMP, Police, Firefighters, Paramedics, Ground Search and Rescue, Department of Environment (Natural Resources) and Red Cross all attended the event. MC’s for the evening were Mr. Ben Cleveland & Mr. Paul Lombard.

Guest speakers included Yarmouth Mayor, Pam Mood and MLA Gordon Wilson. Also five youth spoke at the event. Dillion Francis and Ryan Ritchie are both 17 and they volunteer with the Smith’s Cove Fire Department. They both spoke about how working as a First Responder has changed their lives and is preparing them for their chosen careers. Shelby Brooks a 17 year old cadet shared her story on how the cadet program has impacted her life, improved her anxiety and prepared her for her career choice. Kyle and Cole VanTassel, brothers age 10 & 11, thanked the First Responders for all that they do for them.

Employment Opportunities would like to thank all the sponsors, donors, organizers, the public and most of all the First Responders and their guests who attended. We were honored to be able to do this for our First Responders and we wanted to say thank you for all the work and sacrifices the First Responders make for us every day.
